The decision to use Plasma or LCD technology is very much dependant on the application the screen will be placed in. Plasma screens can display a brighter, sharper image in some applications and are ideally suited where professional displays are required, LCD screens generate less heat and use less energy to power them – they are also more lightweight.

LCD technology should be considered in environments where there is a demand for a 24/7 display (e.g. in digital-signage applications) as they are more tolerant of continuous ‘same image’ display. In business environments traditional widescreen televisions remain popular for displaying 24-hour televised news channels delivered via Freeview or Satellite decoders – some having the tuners already built into the screen.
